Brenda Tan, 21, Singapore

Believes she was born with her foot in her mouth, and sprouts the most random nonsense. Has egoistical tendencies, sticks by her principles, extremely hard-headed and a tongue of venom (when provoked). Otherwise, she's a harmless little fart. Really. Easily bribed with Starbucks' hot chocolate and colourful balloons.

P E R S O N A

Photo Every morning, Brenda will roll over in bed, glance at her alarm clock, let out an anguished "Oh No!" and jump out of bed at warp speed.

This is the hectic way in which she begins every new day of her life.

"Always be a first-rate version of yourself, instead of a second-rate version of somebody else." -- Judy Garland

Before she begins, she wishes to answer the common question of why is she writing in third person? The answer is simple. Only when she writes her biography while looking at herself from the eyes of an outsider, the words will then flow out more naturally - and she will reach the stage where her fingers are able to dance rhythmically on her keyboard.

That aside, she is now ready to begin.

She has been named Brenda Tan (Chinese Name) by her parents, a name which she thoroughly hates due to it's reference to violence. However, after being stuck with that name for her entire life, she's more or less learnt to come to terms with it - or rather, come to terms with the fact that the name suits her because indeed, she can be violent.

Her first cry was heard on the 6th November 1986, which makes her 21 years old, although she likes to think that she's younger or older - depending on the situation. Despite being born and raised as an only child, Brenda is never lonely because somehow or other, she's always able to find a way to occupy her time. The only tell-tale sign that she's bored is when she begins whining.

She is an agnostic, and classifies herself as a semi-atheist. Though skeptical towards the presence of God sometimes, she does have a slight belief, especially after being in a Catholic School for almost 10 years of her life. Either way, she loathes and abhors it when someone tries to preach at her about religion, so don't even try.

She who seeks solace; in herself, her family, and her surroundings.

Brenda has a tendency to daydream, and would occasionally gaze longingly into the distance, allowing her mind to wander. Often, she would lose track of reality and what's going on around her, requiring those around her to bring her back down to Earth.

She loves to curl up in bed on a rainy day with a good book, listening to the pitter-patter of the rain, allowing herself to get absorbed into the storyline. Photography is another hobby which she often indulges in, and her photos usually reflect the way she perceives the world to be, and in her case, she views the world as a place full of colour and vibrance.

She is someone who loves organization, be it in the form of design, her life, or her environment. She also likes things to be order, so that she is able to lay back with the satisfaction that everything is just dandy, and under control.

Her room is a perfect example of her obsession with organization, seen by how her books are arranged numerically and alphabetically, and her clothes, according to colour.

Ironically, her thoughts are always jumbled and messy and she takes no action in setting them straight.

It's her personality that shapes her, and not her external appearance.

Autumn is her favourite season. This season was particularly selected as it fitted her personality best. Bright and colourful at times, and dull and monotonous at others. A direct reflection on how Brenda can be loud and cheerful or silent and broody on certain days.

A cross between an idealist and a realist - able to view things from others' perspective and accepts the real world for what it is, but refuses to allow herself to be tainted by what she sees.

To sum up the personality of this little nutcase (which she likes to call herself, even though she's allergic to nuts), the words used will be more to the lines of ditzy, sociable, diligent, opinionated and yes, damn friggin' egotistic.

PhotoLet's elaborate on the ditzy aspect of her character. Of course, she fits the personification of the calm and composed individual her external appearance seems to portray most of the time. However, she does have occasional outbursts of ridiculous humour which dissolves her into the typical heeheehee little girl which can be deadly infectious because suddenly, everyone else in the vicinity will be behaving like her.

And during times like these, her mind can really go down the drain. Bring up any toilet humour, and it can tickle her silly - although usually, she's the one bringing up toilet humour. No, seriously. Subsequently, when she is already in that kind of mood, any random shit can just escape her mouth. Bewarned.

She's a perfectionist who strives to excel in everything that she does. Be it in terms of studies, in interpersonal relationships, and even something as insignificant as ensuring that the fonts used in her typed reports are consistent - yes, she can be that anal.

She tends to sink into disheartened moods when she feels she hadn't given her best, hence giving others the impression that she is egoistic. She doesn't deny that fact though, considering how she is constantly seeking opportunities to prove her capabilities, and how frustrated she feels when people don't see the best side of her, if there is one.

Oh, and more about the egoism. Have we mentioned before that this is an individual with an overly-inflated opinion of herself? This is where she derives her self-confidence from. Of course, being egoistic doesn't mean she is a braggart. Rather, she is a silent egoist - one who keeps all her opinions regarding self in her heart and mind, and uses it as a main driving source of strength, and as a motivator.

PhotoShe's an extremely wilful and stubborn girl, with her mind of her own. She especially loathes it when people tell her what to do - basically, she just has a problem with authority.

Being the fiesty little girl she is, all the more she will do the opposite of what she's told to do or not to do, just to annoy the heck out of the other individual. (She seeks gratification in that, sadistic as it sounds.)

She's against external control, as she feels that she has the right to have her own personal space, freedom, as well as to be able to make her own decisions. She believes in being herself and seeking her own happiness and not living up to the expectations of other people.

One main flaw in her character is that she tends to be a little paranoid and pessimistic, always expecting the worst to happen. She can never understand why this is so, and she just accepts this flaw as part of her personality.

That's Brenda for you.

Looks harmless, and is indeed relatively harmless. Unless you make her angry, that is.

And I salute you if you've read this far.
