Yesterday was rather significant, as it marked the day of the very last accident I am ever going to have at my workplace.
I am sure the question lurking in the minds of everyone at this point is; What makes Brenda so certain that she is never going to have any more clumsy encounters at work?
Simple. I resigned.
But no, I didn’t resign because I was constantly making mistakes at work. I merely resigned because I wanted to give myself a month-long break from everything before University starts next month. It’s high time I sat myself down for a good rest, and to recharge my batteries before proceeding on with anything else.
Back to the actual scene. Call it over-confidence, or anything to that extent. Somehow, I overly estimated my ability at balancing when I was carrying a tray with several half-filled cups of water after clearing the table for a customer. At that point in time, I was trying to spin around to face the side-station so that I can replace a piece of damp cloth back in it’s basket.
Apparently, I was moving a little too fast, because one of the cups went flying out of my tray in the opposite direction of which I was heading to. The next thing I knew;
CLING! CLING! CLANG! CLANG!
In a split-second, the eyes of everyone in the vicinity was on me. But somehow, yesterday must have been my lucky day, because none of those eyes belonged to anyone of my supervisors or managers. For some strange reason, none of them were at the scene.
The contents of the cup also flew in almost all directions, and spotted the garments of one of the customers nearby. Thankfully, whatever she was wearing wasn’t a Prada, or a Gucci, or any of those hideously branded clothing.
I also managed to pop up the entire mess without leaving any trace that it actually took place.
That is, I hope, the very last time that I will ever show my clumsy self at a workplace. Because Brenda is never going to take up a job in the Food and Beverage industry ever again. The next time I get around to seeking another part time job, I am going to weigh the pros and cons about the job description before I decide, instead of simply jumping on the bandwagon in a haste like how I did with this job.
Today was also significant, albeit in another way. Yes, it was my last day at work. Although I wasn’t quite fond of my job, I will have to admit that I will miss almost everything about my workplace. From my co-workers, the grumpy manager, the collection of old shoes in the staff lavatory, the nagging of my supervisors, and even the difficult customers.
Despite bring around for a mere two months, at least I’ve managed to forge a bond between some of my co-workers, and I do hope that we will keep in touch. To each and everyone of them, thank you for making my first proper job a memorable experience. This particular job had certainly been an emotional roller coaster ride of trials and tribulations.
Needless to say, I brought home several momentos from my workplace;
Naturally, my camera came along to work with me, and I spent the last few minutes of my shift capturing snapshots with my fellow workers. It’s a pity I can’t really capture the true “essence” of my job in pictorial form. All I can say is that my job at Swensens is now a closed chapter of my history embedded in my memory.

And of course, I popped by my previous branch as well, the familiar place where I used to work before I was transferred, with all the people who I know and love.

it seems as though you are so much closer to the people in swensens terminal 2. it can be seen in the photos… in the first set of photo, you are all standing far apart. But in the second set, all of you look so united….
Ah, that’s cool. I really hated your job (even though I didn’t even work there!) and it seemed like it was stressing you out so much. I’m glad you got really close to your co-workers, though. You guys look really happy in all the pictures!
“Haste make waste”… that’s what my granny used to say anyway! I look forward to you beginning your new chapter… this one closed so eloquently.
ps: Thanks for stopping by!
The law of the universe states that if you’re quitting your job, something bad is likely to happen on your last day. At least you take some good memories with you! The pictures look so happy.
Hehe… your little experience story sounded really cute not to mention funny. I’m very clumsy sometimes I embarass myself quite often. IF it’s either tripping over stairs, bumping my head, knocking a bottle of paper stars all over the floor, or simply making a fool of myself in class, I have to say, clumsiness is a curse that makes life more interesting. I haven’t worked in the food and beverage industry before but by the looks of what people have to do to serve the customers, I wouldn’t want to take up that job unless I was desperate for work. I volunteered once with my scouts group to hold a huge fancy dinner with assigned seatings, fancy clothing, and set menus for all the members of my church and was it ever hard work! Not only did my feet get sore from wearing heals that I couldn’t walk in, but some of the customers weren’t always that friendly and the high demands made me running around like crazy for a couple of hours. I hope you’ll get good relaxation and a good break this next month before uni. It sounds like your summer will be lots of fun. Hehe
I never understood how some workers could carry so many dishes x-x… But yeah, don’t worry about it, mistakes happen all the time, and I”ve probably done worse even though I”ve never worked before LOL.. Bleh, I had just noticed that vacation is almost over and school is coming up….
Hi Brenda. Yeah you’re right. It’s never too late to save money. :) Your comment made my day. It make me feel that I’m not that horrible with money. :) Anyway, you made a choice and your intentions are good. Everybody deserves a rest anyway. Plus university is soo tiring that you have to prepare yourself for it. :) Wow it’s only now that I went to a blog of a girl from Singapore. It’s really cool. I’m going there next week or the week after next week for only 2 days. Where should I go? :)
Sweetie, what camera do you use.? I envy your pictures so much. So beautiful and the quality of the colors are awesome.
Wow—your entry hits home. Yesterday I gave up some responsibilities that siphoned precious time away from my important goals in life. It was hard to give them up after many years, but if I want to realize my objectives, I must buy out time for more important things.
Here’s hoping we succeed in our various endeavors!
Hehe, that was absolutely the funniest thing I’ve read today. XD Of course, I mean it in a good way =9
I’ve never been to Singapore, but I plan on moving there when I grow up. Heard the place is REALLY clean, with a lot of strict laws against littering. Sounds perfect!
By the way, your layout is beautiful. I will link you as well.
