Took a mild spill down a rather high step ended up busting my right knee - re-activating an old injury. (I get spasms of pain in my knees ever so often after a certain accident which took place during a bowling tournament last year - and my knees haven’t been the same since.) And now it’s back to several days with the knee brace, yikes.
Anyhoo.
Because good things are meant to be shared, I guess I would share a bit about this lovely spot I’ve discovered behind my workplace (which I’ve vaguely mentioned about a couple of entries ago).
For those who missed it - basically, it’s a quiet spot a short walk away that happens to be right next to the runway of the nearby Changi Airport and as such, provides an pretty good view of the airplanes in action. (i.e. taking off or landing)
There’s also a lovely grass slope which sort of resembled stadium bleachers since they were directly facing the runway. One fine day (when I’m feeling more daring), I may decide to climb that slope so that I can have a bird’s eye view of the airplanes.
Meanwhile, I’m content with sitting on the tar road in the middle of nowhere and just staring at the aeroplanes. (Or into space.)
And of course, here are them pictures. I do have a picture of the planes taking off, though I wouldn’t be posting them here - mainly because I don’t know if the runway and everything is a so called ’sensitive area’ for picture taking, considering the various terrorism and security issues that lurk over our heads as of late. (I do not wish to be mistaken as someone with evil intentions, thank you very much.)

Approaching the place soon, bringing you a picture of the exterior view of the place courtesy of my lousy handphone camera. Looks pretty secluded, but it is not that so. It is only less than five minutes away from the main road so it’s actually pretty accessible.

The slope, which I mentioned earlier. A good picnic area for friends and couples alike. (Although I don’t wish to see any fondling or any form of R-rated activity at my secret hiding place. I go there for peace and quiet, not to watch such action.)
Plus, the place is always empty so far when I am there, and I don’t want it to fill up with people so soon.

The shadow of yours truly on the tar road, with the sun almost overhead. (Photo was taken at 11.00a.m, close to midday.)

In the background is a view of the entrance/exit of my secret hiding place from the industrial area where I work at. Oh, and yes, part of yours truly (positioned in a way which nicely covers my ’signature’ ponytail - which is ridiculously short now due to a recent haircut, but that’s irrelevant.)
Oh, and please don’t ask why I am wearing a jacket under the hot sun. A bit of insanity on my part but to be honest - I didn’t feel one bit warm at all.

Some palm tree seeds I found on the pavement on the way back to my workplace (after having soaked up enough airplane sightings and sunshine). The whole pavement was scattered with them, and I love the sensation of crushing them beneath my feet as I walked.

One of the most significant structures that defines the industrial area my workplace is based in - still viewable as far as the main highway. I’m not sure what it is, but it looks like some weather satellite thingy. Somehow, I just find it quite pretty.
The area where my workplace is located may seem very peaceful and gives off a bit of the countryside aura - the good side, although I must say that the interior of my workplace is crap with it’s half-broken chairs, extremely cold air-conditioning, runned-down offices and especially this cramped, musty-smelling computer cum server room which I am currently typing this in. Ack.
(Yes, this is another entry drafted out while at work.)

Thanks for sharing these pictures, the place looks lovely! Work sucks, but at least you have one nice place to turn to. (P.S. I love the watch you’re wearing!)
waaaaah so pretty! you can go there and destress during work time!
That place almost looks suitable for a picnic. I’m surprised that there is a place that allows you to walk around in such an area, considering that a lot of places in Singapore have well-buckled security.
Oh, and you’re not the only one who uses a jacket in the heat. I do it often and am pretty much desensitised to it. So if I go to a cold country, I’ll pretty much freeze to death way before winter. =/
It seems so nice and warm there. =] Vancouver got crazy hot for a few days, and all of a sudden went winter-cold again. =.=
This posting gave me a flashback to my own spot in my first job years ago. Not quite the same though. I was in the IT Department of a retail company. I was usually bored out of my brains at work. My entire department got shifted to the other end of the Klang Valley and I got held back because the MD was afraid that the system would go down and he would need someone there to yell at. He never knew my brilliant system recovery work was to hide in the server room and wait for the system lag to pass.
Anyway My Spot was a room filled with computers still in their boxes. There was an A/C cos it was an office before (my office!) not a storeroom. Right at the end, behind all the boxes, in the corner were the IT reference books. I’d go in there on the pretext of reading them. I’d get one out, lie down on the carpet, put my cell phone on my chest and have a nap. No one would miss me cos there was really F.A. for me to do there.
Finally, my immediate boss was able to extricate me from there and rejoin my colleagues who were now in the warehouse. I never had a spot like that again but I think I was happier to get the heck out of the emporium and back to real work again.
Hey wait… that is Changi North industrial estate am I right? Because I recognise the satellite structure thing and I see it all the time whenever I pass that area. Somewhere near Changi Prison or something…
And yes, post a picture of the planes please? :P
Those towers look like communication towers. They don’t have enough substance to be anything else. And I don’t think I’ve ever seen seeds like that before. That is some awesome scenery there! Airports are often in the outskirts, country-like areas of cities so that they have more room for runways.
Speaking of runways, I’m pretty sure that If you photographed a plane taking off, it’ll be okay to put up here. (Unless of course, you’re writing in code that no one can understand.)
