R has the honour of being the first person among us to hit twenty. Technically, she is no longer considered a teen, whereas the rest of us are still nineteen.
As for me, I pride myself in being the youngest of them all. Hohoho.
So R decided to hold a mini gathering at her home in the evening, and all of a sudden, S and I found ourselves becoming her errand-girls for this event.
Not that I minded of course. It is her twentieth birthday after all, and furthermore, one must always be nice to the birthday girl. ;)
Please help me get 8 bottles of 1.5 litre drinks, two lemons and one big packet of ice cubes.
Thanks!
Then came problem number one. 8 bottles of 1.5 litre drinks, and only two of us.
It’s okay, I can try to squeeze in a bit of weight-lifting en-route. For the past few months, the only form of exercise I’ve ever gotten was for my fingers - holding a pen and writing, that is.
After which, came problem number two - it was terribly difficult to find a packet of ice cubes. I had to ask two salespersons at various areas around the supermarket just to locate it.
And when I finally did, I had to struggle to dig into box at sub-zero conditions, with my ears being blasted at by another salesperson who happened to be standing directly next to the icebox, yelling “Want to try our blahblah?” at 100 decibals to every person that strolls by.
I was terribly worried that the huge packet of ice cubes might melt on the way to R’s house, because the weather was pretty warm.
Then, S’s phone rang - with problem number three hot on its heels.
Apparently, R still wasn’t ready and hence, the gathering had been postponed to 7.30p.m. Furthermore, she didn’t want to let anyone into her house before that because, according to her, she wanted to make sure she looked good.
7.00p.m. and 7.30p.m.
I don’t think it will make a difference, right? After all, it’s half an hour only.
Uhh, actually, it does. ;)
At 7.00p.m, we will arrive at her home with 8 bottles of soft drinks and a packet of ice.
Whereas at 7.30p.m, we will arrive at her home to deliver 8 bottles of soft drinks and a packet of water.
In view of our dilemma, S interjected and mentioned that even if the ice were to melt due to the delay, we wouldn’t be at fault. This is because R only mentioned that we needed to get ice. However, she hadn’t mentioned whether it is liquid ice or solid ice, so technically, it is still ice.
I burst out laughing at that.
Thankfully, we made it to R’s home without incident.
Last but not least, a very Happy Birthday to R! S and I had enjoyed being your errand girls for the day, and we hope you’ve enjoyed that little bar of chocolate we’ve gotten for you.

First things first, to my regular visitors, please accept my apologies if I haven’t been dropping by your sites recently - or if I hadn’t commented on your entries for the past few days. I am absolutely dying here with too much trainings with the added need to keep up with my assignments. By Sunday - I promise.
So, tomorrow marks my very first step into the Bowling IVP Tournament. Will it make it or break me?
I’ve trained hard for this, and I am quite certain that I can maintain my usual 140-150 average. However, after checking out the competition during the Men’s singles held yesterday, I am suddenly struck with several thoughts of “What-ifs?”
The two SMU guys teams did very well, with the SMU girls team (Me and another three teammates) screaming our lungs out cheering for them. Out of all the bowling scores achieved by our male counterparts, almost 50% of the scores were 200 and above.
But yet, we still lost.
And all of a sudden, my 140-150 average seems so… meagre in comparision.
Furthermore, there was also the incident of the wrongly-sized shirts. Apparently, the shipment of team shirts for the SMU Bowling Team came in the wrong sizes, and most of the guys who were bowling in yesterday’s singles tournament had found themselves wearing a tight-fit tee.
One of my senior teammates realized that he had to change his style of bowling just to accomodate the tee - as he was afraid the sides of the tee would slit open if he wasn’t careful.
Naturally, since Alvina and I were in charge of the team shirts, we weren’t happy, and delivered a bunch of good words down the phone to the ears of the supplier.
That said, I hope tomorrow will be a better day.
Wish me all the best - with high scores. I am hoping for a miracle to suddenly take me adrift and bowl at least an average of 180. Is that ever possible?
At the moment, I feel like Chicken Little when he was called up to bat during the baseball scene.
“I will not let you down.“

Two days on a sunny island.

It’s been a fantabulous one night and two days weekend vacation with my extended family and cousins at Sentosa. Although I emerged all red and blotchy due to the excess sun, I can safely say that I enjoyed every moment spent.
The laughter of the younger ones, my cousin’s usual joking and humour made in a very pleasurable two days indeed. And not to mention the various attractions that Sentosa had to offer.
The admission fees to most of the attractions were much too costly for our shallow pockets, though. However, we still had fun patronizing the free of charge attractions, especially the beaches, the fountain gardens and the likes. The fountains especially caught the attention of most of the younger ones, though, especially since most of them loved to play with water.
Speaking of water, we did spend most of our time in the water. Not along the beaches though, but rather, the swimming pool of the resort we stayed in. We’ve all become paranoid especially after we’ve received news about how a tourist drowned along one of Sentosa’s beaches on the exact day we were there.
You may be curious what this paranoia is about, especially since my cousins (except me) are strong swimmers. Some are worried that the younger ones might suffer a similar fate. Whereas others wondered whether the ’spirit’ of the drowned victim might still be lurking the area.
And mind you, that tourist wasn’t the first person who drowned in the area, so we weren’t taking any chances.
Speaking of which, I was pretty scared out of my wits when I’ve read the news about the two sisters who were flung out of a roller coaster ride in Singapore yesterday while in Sentosa. To think that I myself have been on that exact roller coaster ride twice before.
Ah well, enough of reminiscing and talk about roller coaster rides. I’ve not got to go and nurse my redder-than-a-lobster’s skin.
Things never work out right for me especially when the sun is concerned. I’ve sought after a nice tan, but got myself a burn instead. I’ve heard some speculation that using margarine may help, but I refuse to be treated like a piece of bread.
