TitleFalling back to reality.

Oops, I had just realised that the air conditioning in my room had been running continously for the past 48 hours. Sadly, I’ll have to admit that I often forget to switch it off whenever I am not in the room, mainly because I prefer to keep the room cool. I wonder how am I going to explain to my mother when she receives the electrical bills next month. At this moment, my air conditioner is having a nice rest after the gruesome hours of continuous work.

I am completely wasting this holiday away. During the past few days, the earliest time which I had ever woken up was 12:30pm and the latest being 2:00pm. This means that half the day had already passed without me engaging in anything constructive at all. Flipping through my calendar yesterday afternoon had me realising with a shock that school is starting the week after next, which is truly a short time indeed. Time is flying by so quickily that the memories of every single day of the holidays seems extremely blurred.

Furthermore, I have yet to complete my holiday assignments. Though I had already completed the first 75% of them before I left for Malaysia, I simply can’t get myself down to complete the last 25%. This has resulted in me procrastinating my work for the past 2 weeks. I guess now is the time to pay for my misdoing by having to rush through those assignments for the remaining short period. To make matters worse, there are 4 revision tests coming up during the first week of school which I have yet to study for. I had also lost touch with all the topics I had done in JC 1.

This is truly a horrific nightmare, indeed.

I have had my head in the clouds for the entire holiday to an extent that I had almost forgotten about Dooms-Day, or rather, Dooms-Year. What is Dooms-Year? You may ask. I had decided to name my upcoming JC2 year as “Dooms-Year”, mainly because I am not looking forward to it. This is the year where teachers tend to add even more pressure on the already over-worked students in the respective Junior Colleges of Singapore. Furthermore, there is also this uncomfortable tension and immense competition in the air as every JC2 prepares for the dreaded A Levels in November.

I feel that I had enjoyed this holiday far too much and now, I simply do not want it to end. The mere thought of having to face reality and the upcoming A’Levels is simply too much to bear after the past few weeks of carefree enjoyment.

TitleAn illusive phenomenon…

I am starting to suspect that someone has hacked into my computer. For some strange reason, my “home” address keeps switching itself to an unknown search engine when I had specifically set it to this domain. Furthermore, I receive email bounceback messages in my inbox for spam and advertising, which means that someone else had gained access to my email and had used it to spam the email inboxes of others. I am not sure whether I am the only person around whose “home” address keep mysteriously changing itself, though. Please let me know if you are facing a similar situation.

On a lighter note, my Uncle is taking my cousins and I to Kuala Lumpur near the end of the month for a shopping spree at the newly opened Berjaya Times Square for about 3 days. I had decided to call Erica to come along since she could get along with my cousins so well. Sadly, David wouldn’t be coming along, so there would only be Jeremiah, Matthias Erica and I. Uncle Johnny told me that we are going there by coach, but hopefully, we would drive up because there would be a greater sense of freedom that way. Furthermore, we can easily drive up to the nearby Genting Highlands once again if we feel like it ;)

Apparently, only a selected few of us would be going on this trip because the rest of my relatives had expressed no interest in Times Square. Hello? Times Square is the newest attraction in Kuala Lumpur which is twice the size of Suntec City with almost a thousand retail outlets, and yet these shopping gurus (namely, my aunts) are not even interested? This is a very strange phenomenon, considering the way they had almost bought out the entire First World Plaza when we were in Genting Highlands two weeks ago.

TitleKiasu-ism at it’s peak

The worst time to go shopping at Metro is the time when they are having their annual storewide 20% discount. Just as the title of this entry suggests, this is the time when the kiasu-ism of Singaporeans are at it’s peak. The place was booming when I reached the Metro outlet at Tampines, and it was a common sight to see people grabbing items and clothing off their hangars whether they really need it or not. Long lines formed at the fitting rooms, and it was impossible to actually move around the store without bumping into anybody. The racks were absolutely messy as shoppers did not know how to return the items in their original positions after browsing. I simply took one glance at all these and my mood for shopping fizzled away almost immediately.

In the end, my mother was the only one who did her shopping at Metro while I on the other hand, began to wander around the shopping mall and buying items from any store other than Metro. One trend I noticed is that many people tend to buy simply for the sake of buying whenever there is a sale. I admit that I have this characteristic as well, and this accounts for my almost-exploding wardrobe in my room.

Due to my complaints regarding the increasing number of mosquitoes in the house, my mother called in the Pest-Control Company this afternoon to investigate the problem. This man who was armed with a spray had started to roam around, squirting some insecticide into almost every corner of the house. That insecticide had given the entire house a foul smell for the next few hours and it was absolutely torturous for me since I had a sensitive nose. Furthermore, I kept stepping into those puddles of insecticide accidentally while I was walking around in my room and thus, it had caused me to hop to the toilet two to three times just to remove the foul-smelling liquid. However, one advantage was that the effects were seen almost immediately since the amount of common pests in the house had decreased drastically shortly after the insecticide had been administered.

I wonder what brand of pesticide the pest-control man had used. Whatever it was, it seemed to be really effective. One day, I am going to enquire as to where he had obtained that pesticide from. It can really come in handy if I want to get rid of certain pests, and I am not talking in terms of the household types. *Evil grin*

The flu epidemic seems to be getting worse and now it had even been transmitted to Hong Kong. This can be seen by the increasing number of Singaporeans rushing to get vaccinated against the flu. Even most of my relatives had been caught up in the rush as well and almost every single one of my extended family members had been vaccinated except me. I guess this is yet another example of kiasu-ism, or in nicer terms, an example of the quote “prevention is better than cure”. But I can’t really be bothered with those flu shots and shall rely on my Vitamic C pills for now.

They work wonders.
