Title“David Ah! What on earth are you doing?”

Nothing much had taken place today, except for the usual studying and preparations for the Promotional Exams. Completed a few Mathematics tutorials but there were so many blanks left here and there, making me demoralised just by looking at them. The rest of the day was then devoted to doing nothing else but Physics and if I am not careful, both of my eyes might be permenantly glued onto my Lecture notes. As what Clara has said before, I am starting to turn into a muggertoad and this is something which I cannot agree less. Even when my cousin dragged me down to keep him company at the Playground, I was snuggled up on a bench, flipping through my Physics notes.

But that would definitely be temporary. Things will go back to normal once the Promotional Examinations are over as I loosen up and enjoy life once again.

I think.

David (My 11 years old cousin) really made me laugh today. Upon reaching back at my Grandmother’s house, he ran into the toilet and slammed the door. I heard him turn on the shower inside and soon after, the sound of running water was audible throughout the entire house. Thinking that he was taking bath, I decided to head for the room, thinking that everything was normal. Then I stopped short, realising that David does not have a fresh set of clothing with him.

After a while, Jess appeared and started slamming on the door because she knew that David was playing with the water in the bathroom yet again. Jess knows best as, after all, she stays with him 24/7. Jess continued slamming on the bathroom door for almost five minutes but David still refused to open it. Instead, he starting singing loudly in the bathroom. Personally, I wouldn’t consider it singing, because he really sounded like an off-pitch hyena. As Jess and I ratted continuously on his door and yelling, David just sang louder in order to drown out the sound of our voices.

Aunty Olive (David’s mother) then appeared, commanding David to open the door at that instant. David ignored her as well, continuing with his barbaric singing. After Aunty Olive threatened him, David finally opened the door with a meek-sounding “Hello”. As soon as Jess and I set our sights on him, we erupted into loud laughter. David was completely dressed, but he was soaked from head to toe. And his T-Shirt was pulled up in such a way that it covered his head with only his face sticking out. Slicks of wet hair also made their appearance near the top of his head (which was covered by the T-Shirt), making him look like a mohawk.

Aunty Olive wasn’t amused though…

TitleCIP and Uncle’s Birthday Celebration

I had to report at East Coast Beach in the early hours of 8am in the morning today for the Beach cleaning programme. Even though one of my pet peeves is to be dragged out of bed early in the morning, especially on a Saturday, I was motivated to do so by the fact that 2 points will be added to my CIP record, which is currently standing at 0. However, the day got to a pretty bad start, considering the fact that I had overslept. Fifteen minutes later, I was rudely awakened by my mother and had to scurry around the house in a mad rush to get ready on schedule.

I was aghast at how untidy the East Coast Beach was. Despite all the efforts the entire JC1 cohort of Tampines JC had placed into cleaning up the beach, the place was still littered with small pieces of litter which was not easy to collect, especially since they were scattered in all directions. As we stood around the beach after the cleaning activity, I looked on disgustedly at the still-messy area around me. I thought Singapore has a reputation of being the cleanest country around? If that is the case, why is the beach and especially the coastline so unsightly?

As it was Uncle Ah Tee’s birthday, my relatives, family and I gathered together at The Oasis, Thai Village restaurant (near the National Stadium) to hold a mini dinner celebration for him. As the adults chatted happily while waiting, I opened my Physics notes and started reading through them. (Physics Faculty Test is in 3 days time!) The dinner wasn’t that appetising though, considering the fact that most of the food supply had already been demolished by the crowd and all we had was the leftovers. Thus, Darren (my cousin’s boyfriend) suggested that we head over the Gelare Ice Cream Shop near the East Coast Beach for some ice cream before heading home. Everyone agreed enthusiastically and hence, we headed out towards the carpark at the Indoor Stadium. Sadly though, we were caught in a traffic jam as there was some programme going on at the National Indoor Stadium. Thus, the 7 of us, namely Aunty Olive, Aunty Nelly, Uncle Ah Tee, Max, David, my mother and I sat together gloomily in the car as the traffic inched along.

The wait was really worth it, though. Gelare’s ice cream is definitely the best ice cream I have ever tasted. The presentation is so unique and the taste was exceptionally creamy. David, who was sitting opposite me was constantly stuffing his mouth with his chocolate ice-cream until Aunty Olive managed to stop him by snatching his plate away. My mother and I shared a giant waffle topped with Chocolate and Cookies and Cream flavoured ice cream and it was simply fantastic. I truly recommend Gelare’s to you, especially the chocolate flavoured ice cream. My cousin, Max was so generous to treat the whole group of us to the ice cream desserts despite the high prices. (One waffle costs approximately SG $8++).

This has truly been a fantastic evening… For some reason, I am always happiest when I am around my family.
