The past two days have been pretty hectic. For starters, my computer had a major crash on Sunday and it could barely start up. Initially, I suspected that it had to be the Blaster virus but later on, I found out that the Hard drive had actually failed. However, I was lucky enough to back up all my files via my father’s laptop.
The computer repair man from Dell Dimension Systems arrived to fix my computer and to replace my hard drive this afternoon. Personally speaking, his behaviour was so DAO (Translation: Arrogant). He never smiled and he was so unfriendly. Upon arrival, he just announced that he was going to change my hard drive and started into the action despite the fact that I was standing there protesting about how I would lose all my files and data…etc. He just ignored me and continued working. My entire A’Level Project Work was in there and it was the only copy I have. My uncompleted school assignments and notes were also in the hard drive and he just ignored me when I complained about how important my files were to me.
Yesterday, I also contacted Dell’s Support hotline regarding the crashing problem. Although the Support people were (quite) unfriendly, it was quite easily seen that they didn’t really bother much about me. They also mentioned that they had to change the hard drive through the phone and as usual, I was explaining about how important my files were and wasn’t there some way in which the files can be transferred from one drive to another. She just told me in an exasperated voice:
“Sorry, this is a mechanical problem.”
Hello? I wasn’t even asking about the problem. I was enquiring as to how my files can be retrieved. As my Project Final Draft was due this week, I was constantly whining into the phone about the importance of my A Level project and that it was important that they come as soon as possible to rectify the problem. And what happened? They simply hung up.
In the end, all those rude Support prople from Dell were phoned up and yelled at by my Father who demanded that since we paid good money for the computer, it is necessary that we obtain good and quick support service.
Seriously speaking, Dell Dimension systems can really do better in terms of friendliness and efficiency. As mentioned before, the serviceman was so arrogant and uncommunicative that the urge to whack him with my bowling ball was overwhelming. He just went on to do something without my consent. Some people really cannot understand how important files are to a computer user. Probably he looks down on me because of I am a teenager? And that my data aren’t as important as that of an executive? Complete misconception.
Once again, this journal would be placed on a semi-hiatus basis due to my promotional examinations. I really need more study time due to my inconsistent habit of procrastinating. A journal entry might be posted this weekend regarding my cousin’s wedding celebrations and that will be about it. Until the exams are over, take care and enjoy the month of October. See you in 3-4 weeks! :)
This entry may be similar to the one posted a few days back regarding the online music piracy. However, there is this overwhelming need for me to let off some steam, especially where the RIAA And RIAS is concerned.
Okay, this overly-exaggeration of music piracy is really, and truly getting on my nerves, especially what the government is doing to curb this so called “nonsense”. Before I continue, let me pose a question to you. Do you like the idea of someone spying on your every move, and watching what you are doing online? For all I know, there might be someone spying on my computer even as I blog. Isn’t this an invasion of privacy? We are entitled to our privacy, freedom of speech and movement, as well as a personal control of our belongings and all our actions. However, this is what is actually going on around us as people being spied on as they surf the web. What the RIAA and RIAS is doing is truly making us feel that we are some worthless people who have to be controlled.
Seriously, isn’t this overdoing it a little bit? According to a comment left by one of my visitors last Sunday, I hereby quote…
“I agree, I don’t think the govt should be allowed to do this stuff at all. Especially since, the people who are losing this money aren’t the bands, but the people who own the rights to their royalties.. etc. They’re all old men who are already very rich. I saw a study on it, the average loss is only $10,000 a year!! These people make millions upon millions per year, but they’re going to fine teens with no money for that little tiny 10,000?! I mean, geeze, why don’t we all have cameras inserted into our brains so the govt can ALWAYS know what were doing.. it’s basically what’s happening”
(Quoted by Jessica)
I absolutely agree with this statement as I have read something similar regarding what she has mentioned. What is the whole point of purchasing an entire CD just for the sake of one pathetic little song? Personally, I feel that this is another method in which the republic is attempting to take our $$. For heaven sake, when comparing multi-millionaires like the people Jessica has mentioned above and young innocent teenagers with a lack of pocket money. Who deserves a high priority?
As this whole crackdown against internet music piracy goes on, my sense of rebellion will also continue to rise. There’d better no more drastic actions such as personal system hacking or spywork, before I lose my sense of belonging to this crazy world. One thing I absolutely detest is to have my privacy invaded, as well as to be controlled at the hands of an external being.
In the meantime, I shall continue indulging in my beloved Kazaa, as well as my favourite mp3s.
Get the ***** lost, RIAA!
[DISCLAIMER]
This is a very controversial entry, so opinions may clash. As you read this entry, do I sound like a rebel to you? ;) Well, there is a need for human beings to express themselves regarding current issues. Thus, I would openly express myself on my little blogging space which I paid for. If you are a govt official reading this, please take note of the above and realise that there are people (along with the many millions around the world) who are really unhappy with such an ongoing event. Thank you for your attention.
The sight of him makes me frustrated and to think that he still has the cheek to speak to Erika so normally despite having snatched her paper and copying it during the Chinese Faculty Test. These kind of people irk me to no end and even the mere sight of then would irritate him. Despite the fact that the whole incident does not concern me at all, I have lost all respect for him. I used to cheerfully speak to him normally but now, I am unable to, except when the need arises.
It turned out that there was no Mathematics test, which meant that I had struggled throughout the whole weekend for nothing. At least that can count as an early preparation for the promotional exams which are coming up next month. For some reason, I just can’t stop worrying about the promotional exams and the mere fact that I am not studying as much as I am supposed to. Too much laziness, perhaps, and too little time. To make matters worse, I learnt from my friends today that the Chemistry Practical component of the Chemistry Promotional Examinations would be held this Friday!
I am not ready yet!
It’s high time that I admit to the fact that I am definitely killing too much of my time online, and neglecting my studies. But according to my observations, Yao Long appears online every single night and he is still doing so well in JC. Rui Quan also spends countless hours online and he keeps topping his class in Science subjects. On the other hand, this girl (yours truly) on the Eastern part of the world with lack of greymatter in her brain is struggling so hard just to even scrape through the promos… and yes, wasting her time away.
Received the results of a Chinese assignment which I had placed so much effort in during Chinese tutorial today and was appalled to find that I had received a miserable 36/100. I had spent almost two hours on that assignment and this is the score I get? What angered me further was that I had received the lowest grade in the entire group.
Physics and Mathematics concepts are also making me more and more confused, to an extent that I can’t even think clearly when doing tutorials. All this has resulted in numerous numbers of Xs on my tutorial sheets and assignments, which is completely demoralising. There are only 26 days to the promotional examinations and my study schedule is still in such a sorry state.
It is high time that I put my big foot down and get cracking. Hence and foremost, I officially declare…
That this weblog/journal is on HIATUS.
I would only blog as and when is necessary, probably once or twice a week. This journal would only be fully back to normal on October the 17th, after the Promotional Examinations end. Wish me luck :)
