TitleDisastrous Teachers’ Day Celebration

Not one of the best Teacher’s Day celebration I had ever experienced, but today’s celebration definitely takes the cake for being the most disasterous I had ever come across…

Firstly, the decorations were poorly done. As the concert progressed, the banners which were hung above the stage started to peel off one by one, landing on the performers on the stage. During one point, the student councillors were standing on the platform when a part of the banner fell off. Upon realising what had happened, I saw them inch towards the area where the banner had landed in an attempt to cover up what had just taken place. However, the entire hall had erupted into giggles by then…

Secondly, the situation in the hall was pretty much chaotic as students whispered amongst themselves during the whole duration of the concert. Many people even laughed loudly when the choir teacher went onstage to sing, which seemed really impolite. I can’t imagine how the teacher would be feeling when she is mocked at openly while onstage, and it is supposed to be her day as well. The least thing the students should do is to appreciate what she is doing as, after all, she had gone through many long hours of practice for her performance today.

I came up with the idea of getting my Chinese teacher a card. Erika and I came togather to decorate the card before scouting the entire college grounds for members of my Chinese group. I only managed to locate Edmund, Grace and Jaime whilst the rest had mysteriously disappeared. Turned out that the remaining people had decided to cut school halfway and illegally sneaked out of the college when nobody was looking. Thus, we had no other choice but to pass Mr Wong an incomplete card. However, Erika and I were hysterical when the card was finished, namely because we had addressed Mr Wong as “Mr Sebastian”, an English nickname which we had given him. I wonder how his reaction would be when he sees the card…

As for my subject tutors, my entire class (03S09) chipped in to purchase a rather big stuffed puppy for each one of them. Hui Hua and I was hugging one of the stuffed puppy and cooing over it when Miss Loh walked into the room. Immediately, both Hui Hua and I scrambled around, attempting to stuff the stuffed puppy into the paper bags, out of sight. Miss Loh was delighted with the little stuffed bear the class bought for her, but that didn’t stop her from conducting the Chemistry Test which she had set for us. Thankfully, the test was rather easy and I am now looking forward to achieving a good grade for it.

Last but not least, I have revamped my Portfolio. Took me a whole afternoon’s work and now I have suddenly realised that I have yet to study for my Chinese Faculty Test, which is to be held tomorrow. Wish me luck! :)

Before ending this post, I wish to extend my best wishes to all teachers in Singapore. Continue with all the hard work you are putting into educating young people like us. We definitely appreciate all that you are doing.

TitlePromotional Exam Blues

Erica and I are now known by my classmates as the “Flower Sisters” or “Jie Mei Hua”. This title was given to us with effect from last Thursday because the both of us kept fooling around with the ACES Day dance steps during P.E. However, I have absolutely no idea as to why we are referred to as “Flower Sisters”, probably due to the fact that both of us have long hair.

Jacklin and I were discussing about the Promotional Examinations on the way home after school and according to her, it is almost definite that I would not be retained in Year 1. That is the response which I have been hearing from all my other friends as well, but I just cannot stop worrying about how badly I am doing in some of my subjects, especially Maths and Physics. To make matters worse, I am still unable to find a good tutor to aid me with my maths until Mr Yong (my previous tutor) comes back from the USA. I am also unable to consult any of my friends as it appears that all of them are not free after school hours.

It looks like now is the time to start working even harder… This will mean that I would have to increase my daily study time from 4 hours to about 6 hours a day in order to squeeze in all my subjects.

Teachers day is just around the corner and I have absolutely no idea as to what I can get for them. I can still recall giving my Secondary school teachers a mini teddy-bear each last year, which all of them adored. Hence, I am thinking of buying the same thing for my JC teachers. However, it would seem a little strange to give my male teachers a teddy bear. Knowing male teachers, they wouldn’t even know what to do with it and the teddy bear would end up sitting in a corner, collecting dust. A pen might be more suitable for male teachers but it seems a little too common… But after all, it is the thought that counts!

Many students in my JC are complaining because the Teachers Day celebrations would end very late on Friday. This is because many of them were planning to visit their teachers in their previous secondary schools. I was planning to do the same thing as well, but am unable to. Thus, I am left with no other choice but to send my ex-teachers a simple SMS instead of surprising them with my sudden appearance… Sigh…

TitleCan someone tell me why …. ?

PE lessons were quite enjoyable today. After running 3 whole rounds around the track in the rain, my class engaged in a game of netball against another class. Before the game started, Swee Wah warned us that our opponent team had a reputation of being really rough and notorious, resorting to anything just to win. Thus, most of us were very alert during the game (except myself, whose head was still high up in the clouds), thrashing our opponent team 35 to 4. After the game, Hui Hoon retreated from the hall, rubbing her sides and complaining that she was constantly being pushed around by the other team, especially Christabel. Two of my toes were treaded on as well… *wince*

But this is the first time I have ever taken part in a team sport and I must admit that it was pretty enjoyable despite being pushed around by the sweaty players from the other team. However, I have a strange phobia to flying netballs and thus, I gave a warned my team against passing the ball to me as the chances of me missing it would stand at 100%. Reason? I would dodge anything which comes flying towards me and this is a natural reaction which is uncontrollable. This was due to an incident which took place in 1997 involving yours truly being whacked in the face by a volleyball. Since then, this phobia has developed. Instead, I focused more on defence and rebounding the catches which my team mates have missed.

I really really need to get down to serious studying immediately after this.

I have learnt from Mr Lim today that I had failed the Mathematics Faculty Test held last Saturday and fell into depression immediately. Is this what happens to me after 5 full days of non-stop studying? All those endless hours of practicing mathematics questions and mastering concepts have been blown into smithereens. Despite all the efforts I have put in, I still wound up with a terrific F9.

At least I passed my Physics Faculty test … by half a mark. Scraping through a test like this is very risky though, especially with the Promotional exams coming up. Sadly, studying hard doesn’t seem to help for me. Like what I have mentioned before, I can expect a 99.99% chance of being retained in Year 1 as there is absolutely no hope for me to ever be promoted to Year 2. I have already put in my best effort and did what I can, but this is still what happens in the end.

Another Chinese Mini-Test again tomorrow which I have yet to study for. That whole list of words had definitely turned me off, decreasing my mood for studying. My Chinese teacher is sadistic! Three whole pages chocked-full of nothing but Chinese words, along with their meanings and he expects us to memorise them within 1 day. Hello? I definitely have better things to do than to just sit in a corner for the whole day and staring at that list of words. I still have other work to do! And all these extra work includes my Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry tutorials along with my Project Work Report.
