My first entry of the new year 2008.
Bangkok was excellent. Shopped till my pockets were empty, walked until my knees are stronger than before, and ate err … not like a pig, but enough.
Pictures of the trip are already loaded here.
I really miss this trip. It’s been wonderful having two of my best girls - Regina and Serine in the same room, chatting from our respective beds in the dark until we finally dozed off, being able to act like the crazy beings we are, and having snacks and milk for supper together while watching television on the bed in the wee hours of the night.
We laughed and laughed and laughed. (Sometimes until we cried, or ended up in stitches.)

On the streets of Bangkok. (With Serine behind the camera.)
With regard to shopping - Platinum Mall, Suan Lum Night Bazaar and Mah Boon Krong were the best places to head to. Nearly 75% of our shopping sessions were spent at either one of these three places. People who are heading to Bangkok anytime soon might want to take note of this.
As for the more interesting aspects of the trip …

8 days in Yunnan

Was initially contemplating whether to get a Flickr Pro account but finally decided to simply make use of my domain space and install some image gallery script so that I can upload pictures with minimal fuss. As such, Yesteryear is born.
And yes, the photographs from Yunnan are already up there.
Mixed feelings about the Yunnan trip, I’d say. Scenery wise, Yunnan certainly lived up to my expectations. I’ve managed to see everything I’ve wanted to see, and at times even more.
What got to me was the cold air (especially the cold air, actually), and perhaps, the behavior of certain relatives.
The temperature in Kunming and Dali was around 5-15 degrees, whereas Lijiang was -1 to 10 degrees roughly. (It even snowed in the middle of the night, according to the tour guide. Though I never got to see it.)
Much as I enjoy cold weather, my skin is unable to take it. I am having a major case of eczema now, as I’ve been scratching my skin raw ever since day three. Scars are prevalent all over my hands and legs, and based on past experiences, scars take a mother long time to heal.
Health wise, I’m still okay. Surprisingly, my asthma and sinusitis never acted up at all throughout the eight days I was there.
Loads of things to ramble about. It’s been a far too eventful trip, in both good and bad ways.
A very long read up ahead, as a forewarning. Although I promise that it’ll be an interesting read. Feel free to yelp at me if you end up falling asleep at your computer, though.

Putting the pieces together

The more I think about that whole hulabaloo that took place last Friday morning (Ref: previous entry), I am starting to suspect it’s one big fat lie. (Read: betrayal)
But then again, who am I to jump into conclusions anyway?
We ended up going to Genting Highlands in the end. Jaime, being rather furious at having to call of the trip at literally the last second, decided that at that juncture, he’d attempt everything just to put the whole trip back on track.
A timely decision on his part, because at that point in time - I can honestly swear that I had completely given up. Considering how we encountered glitch after glitch, I’ve already come to terms with the fact that the trip has already crumbled under my hands. Hell, I even unpacked in a fit of anger.
He asked for the travel agency’s number, so I gave it to him.
Likewise for our booking reference number.
And the next thing I knew, he was calling everyone to tell us that the trip is back on again because (1) he managed to secure four tickets for the night time coach to Genting at 10.00 P.M. and (2) he managed to get his girlfriend, Jessica to go at the last minute. (Which means that the parental restriction not allowing me to travel alone with two guys will be lifted - meaning that the trip is a definite go.)
The downside? We have to pay for the new booking.
But at that time, all of us were so desperate to carry on with the trip that we willingly forked out almost double the original amount for only half the trip.
So, I guess the whole drama had an (almost) happy ending?
A pretty good trip, though I found myself getting pretty angsty and irritated at quite a few points. But well, a holiday’s still a holiday.
