Let me speak of the temp job yesterday. It went okay, apart from some ‘teething problems’ here and there, as well as the fact that I was overworked and underpaid with no lunch hour. I was required to wipe the windows, glass panels, as well as to vacuum the floor. One thing I have to admit is that I have never used a vacuum cleaner before since I don’t do the housework at home, so I had to take some time to figure out how it worked. After which, I managed to do (quite) a good job of the carpet, I must say.
Okay, I know I am tooting my own horn, but somehow I felt that operating the vacuum cleaner was rather enjoyable. All you have to do is push it against the carpet and whoosh! all the dirt on the carpet is suctioned away!
After which, most of the time was spent in front of the computer, keying in data after data, and sorting through the customers’ details. Since it was an optical shop, some of the terms used were rather unfamiliar, so I kept mixing things up. I hope I didn’t make any major mistakes.
As mentioned above, there was no lunch hour, and I only managed to grab the first bite of the day at 6:00 in the evening. Yes, you’ve heard right. I starved for the entire afternoon until the shop became less busy, allowing my friend to head out and buy some food for the both of us.
Needless to say, I wound up with a very bad gastric after arriving home from work. Stomach was constantly feeling as though something was piercing through, and I was feeling extremely nauseous. I was worried that I might hurl, but thankfully, I didn’t.
Naturally, my concerned mother came to my rescue, and after learning that I was only paid $40 for eleven hours work (amounting to only $3.60 per hour), without any proper lunch period, she expressly forbid me from going back there to work again. According to her, the boss was too much. However personally I felt that the job was a rather good experience, and the boss seemed like a friendly woman to me.
But sigh, I am forever grounded from that workplace.
Anyway, today’s been a long, tiring day, since I was away from home for exactly 12 hours, from 11:00a.m. to 11:00p.m consecutively. Not to mention the fact that I had been going out continuously for almost the whole of the past two weeks without any period of rest in between.
Met Jaime for lunch in the morning before strolling through the whole of Bedok Central. After covering all the shops there, I realised that there was still an hour to go before I had to meet Regina at 1:30p.m, so Jaime offered to wait with me at the Bedok Library until it was time for me to leave. I felt a little bad taking up his time, though.
The rest of the afternoon was spent at the Singapore Institute of Management Open House with Regina, since she wanted to find out what degree courses were available there.
As for the rest of today’s events, I shan’t go into detail.
